A mosque where styles meet
In the second half of the 19th century Ottoman architecture entered an eclectic period that freely combined elements from Europe and North Africa. The pointed-arch windows, tower-like corner elements and colourful interior decoration of the Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque are among the most characteristic examples of this period. Pertevniyal Sultan’s tomb is in the mosque garden.
Visiting tips
- It can be seen on the same outing as the Laleli Mosque; the two mosques are 5 minutes apart.
