History of the hamam
The hamam is one of the service buildings of the large complex of madrasas, a hospital, a soup kitchen and a caravanserai set up around the Süleymaniye Mosque, and its income went to the complex. Designed by Sinan to fit the overall plan of the complex, the hamam consists of a changing hall, a warm room and a hot room. According to tradition, Suleiman the Magnificent also used this hamam.
What to know before you visit
The Süleymaniye Hamam is a single-section hamam; there are no separate sections for women and men. How visits are arranged (private sessions for families, couples or groups) is set by the venue and may change over time, so be sure to ask before you go. If you are looking for a separate women’s section and female attendants, choose a double hamam such as Cağaloğlu, Çemberlitaş or Hürrem Sultan; details are in our guide hamams and pools for women.
What is nearby?
The hamam is a few minutes from the courtyard of the Süleymaniye Mosque and its terrace overlooking the Golden Horn. Mimar Sinan’s tomb at the corner of the complex, the historic wooden houses of Süleymaniye and the Rüstem Pasha Mosque on the slope down to the Golden Horn can be added to the same walk.

- You can visit the Süleymaniye Mosque before the noon prayer and then go on to the hamam.
