Show and event venues in the Historic Peninsula: whirling dervishes, concerts and festivals
There is plenty to do in the Historic Peninsula in the evening after the museums close. Whirling dervish (sema) ceremonies from the Mevlevi tradition are staged regularly at the Hodjapasha Culture Centre and in the historic hall of Sirkeci Station. Thanks to its acoustics, Hagia Irene hosts concerts of the Istanbul Music Festival, and Sultanahmet Square and Gülhane Park host festivals and events throughout the year.
The sema is a religious ceremony: there is no applause during the performance and photography is usually forbidden. We recommend that families watching a ceremony go with children over 6.
